Tanya is our Lead Clinical Coordinator and certified TMS technician. She is a member of the Texas Hill Country TMS Leadership Team and has been with Dr. Bening since day one of the clinic opening.
She was a "natural" working the TMS machine from the first time she got her hands on it! She has had extensive training on TMS technology and techniques. She is positive, encouraging and our patients absolutely love her. She is often popping around to all of our clinics providing extra support, education and advice to all of our wonderful technicians. She is directly supervised by Nadia Bening, MD. She enjoys being outdoors, spending time with her significant other, and will do anything for her dogs!

Yes. TMS is FDA-cleared and non-invasive. It uses the same type of magnetic field as an MRI, focused gently on the mood-regulating areas of the brain. There's no anesthesia and you stay fully awake. The most common experience is mild scalp tingling during the first few sessions, which usually settles quickly.
How is TMS different from medication? From ECT?
Medication circulates through your whole body, which is why side effects like weight gain, fatigue, and emotional numbness are common. TMS works only in targeted areas of the brain, so it doesn't cause those systemic effects.
It's also very different from ECT — no anesthesia, no seizure, no memory effects. You're awake the entire time and drive yourself home afterward.
Does insurance cover TMS? What about TRICARE?
Most major insurers cover TMS for depression that hasn't responded to medication, including TRICARE. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Humana, Anthem, Optum, Evernorth, VA/Veterans, Scott and White Health Plan, Imagine 360, Ambetter, Nexcaliber, and self-pay. What are the side effects?
Because TMS doesn't circulate through your body, it avoids the side effects most people associate with antidepressants. The most common effects are mild scalp discomfort or a light headache during early sessions, both of which typically fade. Most people return to their normal day right after a session.
How long does treatment take?
Each session takes about 10 minutes. A typical course is five days a week for six to eight weeks. Many patients fit sessions around work or daily routines, since there's no downtime afterward.
How do I know if I'm a candidate?
